Mary was born on November 4th, 1917 in Lancaster, PA.

Mary's father is Michael J. Mastros. Her Mother is Christina Mastros.

She attended 'Continuation School' at Lancaster Avenue and James Street following East Junior. She stopped formal education at the age of 16. In 1971 she received a GED. In Newport, RI, she attended Milgrim Business School studying office skills and sewing.

During WWII, Mary worked at a torpedo station on Goat Island doing office work (1942-1943). She also worked as an aide at Catholic High School, and in the office at Schick. She worked for a time at Stevens Trade in the office. With her husband, she had a number of restaurants in Newport, RI and one in Lancaster.

An accomplished seamstress, Mary was also active in her church, belonging to the Daughters of Penelope as well as the Philoptohos Society.

Mary sent torpedo necklaces to her sisters. They were tiny facsimiles of the torpedoes being made in the torpedo station off the coast of Newport, RI. Mary was separated from her family for many years to be in RI with her husband. During her years of residence in Newport, they belonged to the St. Spyridon Orthodox Church in Newport.

She married Nicholas Arvanitis on June 27th, 1937 in a double ceremony with her sister Sophie. Nicholas and Mary didn't have any children.

Mary currently lives in Lancaster, PA.
